Weight Loss

Maintaining a healthy weight not only makes you feel better, reduces your risk of various illnesses, but also can eliminate pain in your joints.  I have known numerous people throughout the years that thought they would have to live with crippling pain in their joints for the rest of their lives.  Through diet and exercise, they are now pain free.  The hardest part is getting motivated.  If you can just stick with it for a couple of weeks, you will feel so much better that you won't ever want to go back to your old way of living.

I realize that many overweight people get more exercise than some very lean people.  Again, genetics at its best.  It's not as much about how you look, but how you feel.  Are you full of energy?  Do you rarely get sick?  Do you rarely suffer from debilitating aches and pains?

Remember, the key to maintaining an exercise program is
keeping it fun.  Walking outside, jump roping with the kids, and bicycling are all great options.  Strength training is important as well because the more muscle you build, the more calories you will burn while at rest.

It is also important to switch it up because your body will become accustomed to what you have been doing and you will plateau.  If you have any questions on how to switch your regime around, please email me at
rani@keepfitnessfun.com and I will gladly give you suggestions!

As a personal trainer and yoga teacher, I have tried everything from supplementation to fasting.  I have yet to find the magic pill.  I am a firm believer that even there was a pill, a good exercise routine should be integrated into every day life for both the physical and mental health of the body.

I do detox and fast quarterly because of the way it makes me feel.  A week without over processed foods gives me energy and mental clarity.  It truly makes me wonder why I ever put the poisonous, fatty, over processed, sugary foods in my mouth in the first place.  I have been told by numerous people that they don't have the willpower to do it.  I say try a juice fast for three days and allow yourself an apple or a piece of celery if you can't take it.  For me, the second day is always the worst.  After that, it really isn't as hard as you think it would be.  Your body adjusts.

Maintaining caloric intake is very important.  I have tried for years to maintain my weight by telling myself the more I exercise, the more I can eat.  THAT DOES NOT WORK!  In order to maintain a healthy weight, you must balance cardio, strength training, and food intake.  The best way to do that is to watch what you eat.  If it is instant and white, don't eat it.  There are plenty of cookbooks out there with delicious, healthy, easy to fix recipes.

A good rule of thumb is to keep your portions to the size of your palm or fist, and eat a piece of fruit or vegetable with each meal, including snacks.   Break your goals down to daily and weekly bits. Give yourself a treat day at the end of the week.  If you have been eating properly all week, limiting your cooked, over processed carbs, you won't crave as much junk food.  Exercising daily will help curb your cravings as well.  By breaking it down into smaller amounts of time, It doesn't seem so overwhelming.

I do not recommend supplements because many times, they cause more harm than good.  They can tax your heart, mess with your thyroid function, and cause you to sleep less.

I do recommend fruits and veggies, protein shakes, eggs, and milk for weightloss.  If you would like to know what kind of protein shake tastes the best...email me!
